I am known in my family as a whiner about cold weather. I really think anything below about 65° is just too cold. In fact, I always have a sweatshirt handy because many buildings in South Texas are always cold, if only because of air conditioning.
I grew up in Houston, where the winters are considered mild, but Houston gets a freeze or two a year. Since moving to Rockport, almost 200 miles south of Houston, the winters are even warmer. And I like that!
That being said, so far in 2010, we have had a tough winter. We had three nights in a row last week with low temps in the high 20’s. I mean really! Our average lows are probably in the 40’s and 50’s. I know, all of you who live in places with real winter think I am crazy, but consider this: we do not have coats, gloves, warm hats or even closed toed shoes. During this brutal cold weather, I kept looking in my closet for shoes to wear other than tennis shoes that my toes don’t stick out of!
Alas, we sat in front of the fireplace surrounded by all of the container plants we moved inside from our yard and we survived the Great Freeze!
Call me crazy, but I can’t wait for it to be sunny and 90°!
