If you live in a small town, you have probably gone to a festival of sorts. In Texas, almost every small town has an annual festival which celebrates something interesting or unique about the town.

We live in Rockport, but it is really a combined community of two towns-- Rockport and Fulton. They are two distinct towns, but they run together. There is only one high school and it is appropriately named Rockport-Fulton High School.

Rockport and Fulton each have an annual festival. Fulton hosts Oysterfest every March (celebrating oysters) and Rockport hosts SeaFair every October which celebrates the Sea. At least they both make sense as we are on the water and are worthy of celebrating. I heard once that another small Texas town has a Mosquito Festival every year. I guess any excuse to have a celebration!

So, it is October and it is SeaFair weekend. We will have a parade tomorrow and of course, a carnival, live music and lots of food booths, crafts, and other items for sale. The event takes place on a large piece of property on the bay and is a very pretty setting. It is a great time of community, big fun for the kids and for the town(s) in general.

It reminds me how blessed we are to live in such a beautiful place. Of course, until today, it has been so hot the heat indices have been in the triple digits! Fortunately, a front came through this morning bringing wind, rain and much cooler temps. I believe they are predicting low 80’s just in time for a perfect parade.

I recommend finding a small town festival near you. You can’t go wrong!
