DR Bob: The Physan is an excellent fungicide for plants. It is not organic, but is very safe and biodegrades within 48 hours,no residual. I use it on all my plants along with Actinovate. The Physan kills the fungi within about 20 mins and the Actin…

In about a month we’ll start planting our spring gardens here in South Texas and that means more talk about tomatoes. Tomatoes are the #1 plant here just like it is every place. We’ve spent a lot of research money growing tomatoes using Spray-N-Grow…

There is a 50% chance of rain tomorrow and Wednesday, and that’s good news since we haven’t had a significant rain sine Aug 2008. However, it has been a good time to observe which local plants are holding up during a severe drought. Driving around…

Sounds like too much nitrogen which makes plant grow like crazy, but causes blossom drop. Use a fertilizer with a 1-2-1 ratio (like 12-24-12). Also, daytime temps of 90 and night temps of 70 + is detrimental to fruit set.

1. Mix up enough Spray-N-Grow (SNG) that will allow you to soak your bare root plants (mix 1 oz per gallon of warm water (like you wash your hands in). Place the plants in the mix and begin planting after a few minutes taking them out of the mix as…

Karen: You'll do great. Just follow directions...mix Spray-N-Grow in warm water (like you wash hands in) and allow to stand for about 15 - 20 mins and apply. It's important to apply in the early growth stage for vegetables (the 5 - 7 real leaf stage…

Misting african violets is fine as long as the water is luke warm, it's cold water that spots the leaves. Mix the Spray-N-Grow in warm water (like you wash your hands with) and mist the plant.

We haven't run trials where we've treated potatoe seeds, but it sure wouldn't hurt to soak the seeds for about an hour in the regular Spray-N-Grow mixture. Make sure you apply Spray-N-Grow the first time at the 5 - 7 real leaf stage then every two t…

Tomatoes

In about a month we’ll start planting our spring gardens here in South Texas and that means more talk about tomatoes. Tomatoes are the #1 plant here just like it is every place. We’ve spent a lot of research money growing tomatoes using Spray-N-Grow. These trials were conducted to imitate to how farmers would use Spray-N-Grow and they showed a yield increase of 50-60 % and increased sugar content (better taste). Home gardeners will do even better because they will apply more Spray-N-Grow to the… Continue

Looking forward to some much needed Rain!

There is a 50% chance of rain tomorrow and Wednesday, and that’s good news since we haven’t had a significant rain sine Aug 2008. However, it has been a good time to observe which local plants are holding up during a severe drought.

Driving around town I’ve noticed that Esperanza (Blue Bells) and Bougainvillea are remarkably drought tolerant. Plants that I know have not had any water are healthy and full of blooms. I think we will plant some around our new warehouse where water is limited and i… Continue
