Hi! I just moved to a cute little bungalow here in the NW that has a small lawn. My beloved old dog is used to an acre in the mountains of Colorado, where his bathroom habits didn't destroy the grass. Any way a lawn and a dog can happily coexist???

I have 1 male and 1 female large dog. I have trained both of them to go potty in an area of landscape rocks in the corner of my back yard. The female has been much more stbborn though. She still wants to pee in the grass but will go big potty (poo) in the rocks. They get a treat and lots of praise for going in the rocks. I have tried all the gimmicks they sell for dogs and grass and it`s all a rip off. The full sure proof 100% guarantee way of preventing burning of your lawn from peeing I have found in 9 years in pouring 1 gallon of water over every pee spot after they go. It`s never failed me. NEVER! My yard looks like a golf course. If they go poo in the yard you have to pick it up right away until they go in a specific area. As there litterally going potty in the rocks or circling to go poo I tell them, boy or girl, "Potty in the rock! what a good boy or girl!" I repeat it several times in a normal tone of voice so I don`t scare them while going potty. I know some people use mulch also. The female kind of wonders around the yard looking for her usual spot to go pee or poo and I`m uaually right behind her saying, " come on Abby, potty in the rocks. You be a good girl and go potty in the rocks." Sometimes I`m softly nudging her bottom with my knee or chin. My male dog is very smart. I tell her to follow him and she usallyy does. Or, I tell him to bring Abby in the rocks even though he doen`t have to go potty, then tell her to follow him. I started out by having her drink lots of water ot first thing in the morning bringing them out on a leach to the area I wanted them to go potty in and gave the area a name, "The Rocks." After a few times of that they will eventually go. Don`t force them or they will give up quickly. PATEINCE is a virtue, remember. Good luck and let me know if the gallon of water on the pee in the grass works until you get them to go in an area you want them to go in. Don`t forget to give a treat and praise when they succeed!! GOOD LUCK. kdjuk@aol.com

Mine is still free by not having to pay for limestone, just water temp. when they forget and go on the lawn. Otherwise getting them to go in one small area with mulch or stone is perfect. Don`t have to do the "poo search" and in the spring where I live people absolutely hate it. Especially if there lazy and don`t pick up after there dog after every time there dog goes poo in the winter in the snow. Since writing my first comment about this same thing I do for my 2 dogs I saw the same suggestion made in 2 diffferent magazines. Got lucky I guess. Was your limestone suggestone for if the damage has already been done and it`s to late to pour water on it? That`s happened with me with a rescue I have. She would sneak in the front yard & sneak a pee in and my other dog would come and get me and show me by smelling the area where she peed excessively. "GOOD BOY", Bad Girl! And I would forget and the grass would start to turn yellow! At that point I always wonder, now what? I`ll scratch the area and put down new seed but it doesn`t grow very well. Will it help if I put pelleted limestone along with the seed? Thank You:)plz resp to kdjuk@aol.com tx.
