My Spray-N-Grow Garden

Well, they are not "in" my tomatoes but I went out to water "The Garden of Kate" (named for my 5yr old daughter who is helping me) this morning only to find 2 beautiful red tomatoes on the ground with holes in them.  Argh!  I was not very happy...to say the least.  Kate & I were able to find 1 tomato that hadn't been 'pecked' so she wrapped it up and took it to her teacher this morning.

I am new to this gardening thing...and never thought birds would attack our little garden.  I thought wrong.

Do any of you have any advice for me?

Hi there Dina!

Oh no! Troublesome little birdies. I don't grow vegetables, so wildlife in my flowers doesn't usually concern me. But you could always put something that moves around your tomatoes to keep birds from loitering - like a decorative pinwheel, mobile garden ornament, or one of those bobble-head "predator" statues to scare them off. Maybe even tie streamers to the posts or supports? Or stake up some bird netting.

Good luck to you, and hopefully your daughter will have lots of tomatoes to give away! *^_^*

The Garden of Kate, I love it! That is wonderful that you named it for your daughter. What a special thing to do. Birds love tomatoes. Just love them. It's a catch 20 or what ever they say, because the bids eat some of the bad bugs, I am thinking about what to do this year too with this problem when it comes time, I have read that if you take pinwheels, like you get for your child and glue foil on them that this will spook the birds away. I think anything that has movement would help. Let me know if you find something better or if you try this and it works.
